6 Quirky Things to do in Seattle…

…According to Huffington Post:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/viator/6-unusual-seattle-sights_b_1911019.html

The only one I’ve not done on their list is going to Zoo Tunes—haven’t yet had the opportunity, but someday I will!

There really are all kinds of quirky things to do around here, as well as traditional sight seeing and things.  I tell everyone to go on the Under Ground Tour, which is a little bit quirky and a little bit standard-tourism.  In fact, the Seattle Under Ground Tour is part of what inspired me to write Harbinger (Mythologicals Saga|One)!  The whole thing is super interesting and definitely gets the imagination flowing!

Anyway, I <3 my city, so just had to share!  :)

Happy Reading!

Get Harbinger for 50% Off!

Harbinger cover

Hey!  Harbinger (Mythologicals Saga | One) is part of the Smashwords July Summer/Winter promotion!  You can get it for $1.50 (50% off!) by following the link below and entering the coupon code given on the webpage.

Harbinger on Smashwords.com

A band of friends hide in the darkness below the streets of Seattle, Washington, living outside the laws that govern and record every aspect of modern life. After the death of their parents, and without implanted microchips to identify them, they are fugitives, and Matra finds herself their new leader.

PLUS, Augury (Mythologicals Saga | Two) will be coming out later this summer, so now would be a great time to get your hands on Harbinger and give it a read! :)

The best thing about buying your ebooks on Smashwords is that once purchased, you’ll own it in every conceivable file format you could ever want!  Have a Kindle? Great!  You’ll upload the file in the .mobi format.  Nook? Use the .epub copy.  Want to read it right on your computer? You can view it online as HTML!  The possibilities are endless.   Then, later, if you change devices,  you won’t have to re-buy the book—change from Kindle to Nook (for example) and KEEP YOUR EBOOKS!  It’s awesome.

Anyway, that’s my moment of rave for the day.  :)  Enjoy!

Thursday Catch-up

Hello Faithful Readers!

Well, after being out-of-comission for a few days with a nasty bug, I can’t tell you how pleased I am to be back in the land of the living.  Spending all day in bed is great when it’s by choice—not so much you’re forced to lie there because getting up for more than a few minutes is not possible. :)

Anyway, I realized after coming out of the fog that, as a result of my being infirmed, I’ve fallen woefully behind here on Tumblr (and Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.)  So here’s a quick catch-up of all the fun I was having before becoming a temporary invalid.  ;)

On Friday, the 18th, my good friend and Beta Reader #1 hosted a BBQ in celebration of April having been my highest-selling month to date, and in simultaneous celebration of the release of DRIFT!  It was quite fun!  I wish I’d taken pictures, but alas, I didn’t. The good news is that May is shaping up to be an even better book-sales month, thanks entirely to all of you!

Which leads me to my next point: DRIFT (Shift Series #3) is doing gangbusters!  I’ve received feedback over facebook and twitter already and most of you seem to like it, which makes my day, week, MONTH!  DRIFT was one of the books I had a harder time writing—books in the middle of a series are always a bit more trying than others, for me at least—so it’s been absolutely wonderful to hear that people have enjoyed it!  Thank you to all of you who’ve read it (whether you like it or not), and especially to those who’ve spread the word by telling a friend!  You all are making it possible for me to write more and more!

Which leads me to point #3!  Augury (Mythologicals Saga | Two) is due out next.  My timeline says this summer, and that is probably still a reasonable deadline.  Of course, as always, I’ll share as I get a feeling for a specific release month, etc.  That being said, if you haven’t read Harbinger (Mythologicals Saga | One) and you’re looking for a semi-dystopic summer read, you might give it a try before the second book comes out.  I plan to write a post where I explain this all in more detail, but Harbinger does relate to the SHIFT series—there might even be some repeat characters (perhaps those of a long-lived nature)—and you get to see some long-term repercussions of what Leah is dealing with in DRIFT.  Admitedly, Harbinger is a more mature reading experience, aimed at a New Adult, as opposed to Young Adult audience, but nothing outlandish or NSFW.  :)  I wrote a post where I explained the relation between the two books/series and disclaimered (is that a word?) the differences here.

Until next time!  Happy Reading!

Harbinger: Details and Tunnel Map

When I first started writing Harbinger (Mythologicals Saga | One) more than 10 years ago, I figured out that, given the goegraphic location of different features and trips made within the book, Matra and her group must live in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle before their escape into the tunnels.  When Matra escapes, she does so into tunnels that run directly under her house.  From there, she walks to Westlake Station.

Parts of the tile mosaics—once a nod to modern art for the masses—were missing, as were most of the letters from the sign that once told riders the name of this station, because the tunnels provided no landmarks as clues.  W S LA E   TA I N was all that was left.”

At the time, when I was first writing, there were no tunnels under Capitol Hill.  But, I told myself that times change and by the time rolls around in which Harbinger is set, maybe there would be.  HAHA!  Little did I know, there really, really will be!

The Capitol Hill tunnel and tunnel station is scheduled to open in 2016!  It will connect to the existing network of tunnels and tunnel stations (which were the original inspiration for Harbinger.)  I found this map online and I thought I’d post it to give you all an idea of the (current) expanse of the tunnels, and the walk Matra, Audil and the other take from their homes in Capitol Hill to the abandoned station where they hide for those months.  The light blue line titled LINK is the tunnel system I’m referencing.

Then, when Matra, Audil and Yuki take their trips to the surface and sit in the courtyard in front of the highrise to do their hacking/research, they are near the station titled “Symphony” on this map.  (This is currently called “University Street Station.”)  I’ll post this on the website too, under the Harbinger tab, for easy reference.

Happy Reading!

Explanation: Harbinger vs. SHIFT

So, I realized as I was sleeping last night that I should probably put a disclaimer out there about my latest book, Harbinger vs. my first book, SHIFT.  So here it is:

Harbinger (and the subsequent Mythologicals Saga books) take place in the same universe as the Shift Series, but approximately 150 years later.  You do not need to have read SHIFT to understand Harbinger, or vice versa.  However, if you did read SHIFT and RECAST (and especially if you were a fan of them) you should know that the Mythologicals Saga books are (and will be) a very different series than SHIFT.  The main characters are older, the subject matter a little more adult in Harbinger.  In fact, Harbinger is not a YA book at all, but falls more squarely into the NA, or New Adult genre.  (Here’s a post I wrote about the NA genre some months back, for clarification.) That being said, there is nothing in Harbinger that would be inappropriate for a 16 year old to read (in my opinion.)

There.  Disclaimer complete.  :)
